Grounds
Duties
We are responsible for maintaining the turf, trees, planters, and irrigation. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Installing, repairing, and maintaining irrigation systems
- Mowing, edging, and cleaning up turf and athletic fields
- Maintaining artificial turf
- Installing brick dust on baseball infields
- Grading turf and new lawn areas
- Seeding and fertilizing new and existing lawns
- Trimming trees and removing unsafe and diseased trees
- Planting new trees, shrubs, ground covers, and lawns
- Trimming shrubs and ground cover
- Maintaining banks and removal of weeds
- Weed eating of fence lines
- Abating weeds
- Raking leaves
- Leveling and re-grading tracks
- Implementing the Integrated Pest Management Program, which includes investigation and treatment of insects and other pests as required
- Pesticide treating of gophers and other pests
- Applying herbicides
- Lining and spraying baseball, softball, and soccer fields
- Sweeping parking lots, asphalt playgrounds, and concrete areas
- Repairing and replacing flag poles
- Removing debris on school sites
- Responding to disasters including flood control, placement of sandbags, wind, and storm damage
- Cleaning drains, gutters, and down spouts
- The Small Engine Repair Shop is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the District's small equipment. This includes gasoline operated blowers, vacuums, spray rigs, weed eaters, chainsaws, etc.
